Figures, 1926/1927
Personnages
‘Personnages’ is a one-off, and one of the few bronzes from the pre-war period. Here Giacometti breaks the group of figures down into individual elemental bodies linked together by rods and tubes like parts in a machine. The work was inspired by the Cubist sculptures of Jacques Lipchitz and Henri Laurens and also probably by the paintings of Fernand Léger.
