The portrait shows Nelda Negrini from Stampa, who modelled for three paintings by Giacometti. Her mother was a cousin of Alberto’s, while her grandmother was a dressmaker who sewed clothes for the Giacometti boys. Her brother worked as a cook at the Kronenhalle restaurant in Zurich.
