Head of a Man I (Diego), 1964
Tête d'homme I

As Giacometti depicts the act of seeing in his work, every viewer re-invokes the enigmatic presence of their fellow human being in the process of comprehending it. Creating that presence with ever greater intensity remained Giacometti’s primary objective until the very end of his life. In some of the late heads, such as ‘Tête dʼhomme I (Diego)’, he achieved an almost magical actuality through the medium of painting.
