The head was created as a cast of ʻTête de Brunoʼ (see GS 259), the preceding plaster model, using a multi-part negative plaster mould (plaster piece-mould). Subsequently, Giacometti lightly reworked the surface in several phases.

No subsequent casts were made from this plaster, meaning that it did not serve as a template for a bronze cast.
